AJ had never been to Yosemite and asked Brooke for help planning a backpacking trip in the high country. Brooke picked a loop trail that started at the Porcupine Creek trial head and ended at the Yosemite Creek Campground. There ended up only being four of us on the trip; AJ, Luke, Brooke, and me.

On Friday we hiked from the trail head to the top of Yosemite Falls. Because it has been such a low snow year, there was only a trickle of water flowing in the creek. We decided to camp near there since there were some nice swimming holes in the granite just up-stream from where the falls normally are. On Saturday we did a dayhike over to the top of El Capitan. Sunday we packed up and headed out.

A view of Half Dome from Yosemite Point.

Brooke and I at Yosemite Point.

I think you know what this one is...

AJ poses for the camera while we take a break.

And then its nap time...

Yosemite Creek from the bridge that crosses over it. As you can see, not much water here. Ther eactually was a little trickle going from pool to pool. Lots of people had hiked up from the valley 3,000 ft below.

This picture is so Luke won't forget who chewed a whole in his backpack. The squirels were a little aggressive here...

Dinner time Friday night.

Relaxing Saturday morning.

Brooke on our way to El Capitan.

Brooke again, on top of El Capitan.

Another view of Half Dome and the valley. Unfortunately, there was a lot of smoke in the air from forest fires. It sure is hazy out...

Luke and Brooke sitting under a tree on top of El Capitan where we ate lunch.

AJ, Brooke, and Luke heading back to the trail to go back to camp.

Before stopping at camp, Brooke and I walked out to the Yosemite Falls observatoin point. We were a little surprised the Park SErvice encourages people to get that close to the edge.

The view down the valley.

Brooke and I were in the tent when this little chipmonk started digging a hole a few feet away. He eventually pulled some sort of food out of the hole.

Then he took it up on top of a large rock and ate the whole thing...

Brooke and Luke filtering water Saturday night.

Just beyond the bridge is where Yosemite Falls starts. Well, when there's actually water flowing...

We were headed back up to camp after filtering water, and we found this deer. She looks a little startled...

Our camp on Sunday morning.

I thought these ferns looked interesting growing in a crack in some granite.

Just before the end of the trail, we found this. Looks like someone was bored...
